About Maarten Rots

Maarten Rots is a visual artist from the Netherlands. Architecture is an important ingredient in his photographic work; a lot of his work centers around the play between light and shadow on textured backgrounds in which his fascination for graphical shapes is clearly visible. By using his camera to isolate and flatten these layered compositions into two dimensional images Rots displays reality in an abstract way. “I want to present the audience a different

view on their daily surroundings and hope to increase their appreciation for the ‘here and now’. In a time when more and more of our time is spent looking at screens I want to encourage the viewer to look around and rediscover the beauty in the mundane.
All of my photographs are of situations I find in everyday life. Finding these intricate compositions in reality is a very important part of my process.”
